The Duolingo English Test is a single-hour online examination featuring a two-part structure.
The initial test is a 45-minute adaptive assessment for English proficiency.
In the next section, you will have a 10-minute unscored writing and speaking test.
Introduction and Onboarding Section (5 minutes)
- The introductory phase aims to acquaint candidates with the test layout.
- Confirm that your computer’s camera, speakers, and microphone are in working order.
- Submit your government-issued photo ID.
- Familiarize yourself with the test guidelines and criteria.
Adaptive Test (45 minutes):
This section tests the candidate’s knowledge with the help of objective and descriptive questions. Questions include multiple-choice questions, fill-in-the-blanks, matching the following, and so on.
There is no specific model, as the difficulty level changes based on performance.
Writing and Speaking Sample (10 minutes)
This section, though not scored, aims to assess the fluency of candidates in both written and spoken English.
You will have 30 seconds to select a question for your response. The question may prompt you to describe an image, discuss a given scenario, or speak on a topic for a brief duration.
